Hi there! I’m Ashley— meet your Michigan boudoir photographer, owner, artist, designer, and lover of all things Halloween. (Yes, spooky season is my year-round vibe!) I’m here to be your personal hype girl and guide you through an unforgettable journey of self-love.
I would say that I was born with a camera in my hand, but that feels super cliché and dramatic. I was at least five before my mom even let me touch my dad’s old polaroid camera. While boudoir has been my passion since starting Black Dress Boudoir in 2020, I certainly didn’t start there.
Before becoming a Michigan boudoir photographer, I actually joked that I accidentally became a wedding photographer in 2014 after a family friend asked my mom to take photos of her ceremony and she brought me along to be her second and assist. From there, I started photographing wedding after wedding, family sessions, and so on until it became a full-on business.
When the world shut down in 2020, I was at my lowest with my confidence and any self-love that I had had towards myself. I have been terminated from my full-time job. I had just had jaw surgery that completely restructured my face, my weight was fluctuating constantly, and overall I just didn’t feel good about myself.
It was during this time that the super-niche sector of photography called boudoir exploded. I had never even heard of boudoir photography outside the 70s and 80s glamour photos. There were women everywhere, it felt like taking these images and falling in love with themselves again or for the first time, and I wanted that same love for myself. So I started with some simple selfies and tried seeing myself for the first time as sexy and beautiful and all the things I had seen others feel for themselves but never had for myself. The more pick-me-up sessions I did for myself, the more I wanted to give that same experience to others. Which brings us full circle to me starting Black Dress Boudoir in 2020.
Boudoir photography changed the way I saw myself, and now, my greatest passion is helping other women experience that same transformation. Black Dress Boudoir isn’t just about taking beautiful photos—it’s about rediscovering your confidence, embracing your unique beauty, and walking away feeling empowered.
