You’ve probably heard the term boudoir photography before, but what does it really mean? Many people have misconceptions about boudoir photography, thinking it’s only for models or requires lingerie, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Some less fun members of the world will probably tell you that boudoir is just an excuse for young, skinny, modelesque women to parade around in their underwear and take low class photos. Insert massive eye roll here. This literally couldn’t be further from the truth. Are there underwear involved? Sometimes. But that’s only a small part of it. So now that we know what boudoir isn’t and that some people don’t know how to have fun, let’s talk about what boudoir is!
Boudoir means so many different things; it can be about wanting to feel empowered and confident, self-love or the love between you and your partner(s), celebrating yourself, or just wanting to feel sexy in general. Boudoir is for all regardless of body type, relationship status, or age (must be above 18 years of age). As far as strutting around in your underwear goes, what you choose to wear is your choice, so long as it meets our studio rules and boundaries. Lingerie is not at all required but many clients do choose to do so. In fact there are so many great alternatives to lingerie that you can wear during your session, but we can go over that more in our call or prep guide.
At its core, boudoir photography is about embracing yourself exactly as you are. Whether you’re booking a boudoir photography session in Michigan to celebrate a milestone or reclaim confidence, this experience is about looking in the mirror and seeing strength, beauty, and confidence staring back at you. It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone (just a little or a lot) and realizing that you don’t need to change a single thing to be worthy of feeling sexy and empowered.
And here’s the best part? You don’t have to know how to pose, what to wear, or even how to ‘be sexy’, that’s my job. I guide you through the entire experience, making sure you feel comfortable, confident, and, most importantly, like yourself. So whether you’re celebrating a milestone, reclaiming your confidence, or just doing this for you, boudoir is for everyone who’s ready to see themselves in a whole new light.
